About the Northeast Texas Yoga Community
Note from Katherine McCommon, founder of the NETYC:
Namaste' Friends,
I began practicing yoga in 1997 when my mother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I would help her walk from her bedroom to the living room and we would practice together. I was 13 years old. As a young girl, I did know much about yoga - but I knew it was powerful. As my mother used holistic treatment to overcome the cancer, we continued to practice restorative yoga and gentle asanas. I saw the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits as my mother was healed from her illness.
Now, 11 years later, I am more convinced than ever that yoga is POWERFUL and HEALING. As I have taught at various facilities in East Texas (Physical Impact, Longview Yoga Studio, and now Barefoot Yoga Fitness), I have been able to benefit from the fellowship of yogis. We are a special group, aren't we? We strive to look at the world through eyes of ahimsa (non-violence) and love. Each week I look forward to seeing the yoga students in my classes and the instructors at the various facilities. There is satsang ("association with truth") and kindness in our conversations. We know what it's like to have "that feeling" when we complete our practice. It's "that feeling" that we want to bring to East Texas.
A few months ago, I was meeting with a group of ladies after yoga class and we were reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. What fun that was! To meet with like-minded friends and talk about spirituality & possiblities. To imagine a world without ego?! It was fun to talk about it and share our experiences.
I created this website after realizing that the yoga studios & groups of Northeast Texas don't know each other. Yoga students don't know other yogis outside of their studio! Each studio has a creative and outstanding people of yogis and we should all be able to know each other. We are not competing with each other! There is no competition in yoga. We are connected by our practice of yoga. We are connected through this love and joy we have found in connection.
I invite you to join the Northeast Texas Yoga Community and meet other yogis in NE Texas. There are yogis in our region of Texas who live too far from a studio and they practice in their home. They deserve to be able to connect with local yogis online and this is their opportunity.
Blessings & Love,
Katherine
